For this project, I studied a thread at the warrior forum and went to work. I did choose a difficult key phrase to really put the strategy to the test.  I used the phrase ‘how to win the lottery’.  This is the site I set up howtowinthelotterycash.com

I put a lot of time and money into this site hoping I had finally figured it all out.  Most of my funds were spent on 90+ original articles.  This strategy was meant to hand spin articles, but I thought, by using original ones, the site would really make a better impact .  So, here we go.

Day 1 = Set up webpage, ordered the first round of articles, made a video and uploaded it to youtube. Also, posted a link at topiccraze for the site.

3 = Used an article and converted it to a  pdf then posted it at scribd with 2 links back to site.  Ordered an article submission package that is supposed to yield 1000 backlinks.  I was skeptical about using this, but it did move the site up in ranking very quickly.

4 =  Another ariticle made into a powerpoint and submitted  to slide share, two backlinks included.

6 = Started submitting articles to 25+ web properties. Each article contains two backlinks, two images, and has the video embedded. This is supposed to give the article more quality.

13 = First check, site is at position #185.  On this day I ordered a senuke social network package.  This included 20 backlinks to home page along with two more tiers of backlinks to the 20.

14 = Position #173

15 = Now at #97

16 =Slipped to #124.  senuke campaign completed today.

17 = Dropped some more #127

23 = Still dropping #133

28 = Used a fiverr gig to submit video to 20 sites, some with backlinks to main site.

30 = Today the article summission package is done.

31 = Wow! This is impressive.  The site has jumped to position #16

32 = Move up another three spots #13

42 = Still climbing to #12

47 = The first round of web properties is done, I am now starting on the  second round.

55 = Looks like the site is now on the first page! #8

60 = Ordered a link wheel service that includes 15 web properties.

65 = Still holding #8.   Finished up round 2 of manually posting articles to web properties.

67 =Posted site to  ipaddress.com.  I noticed other sites had linked here, so why not.

73 = Seem to be stuck at #8.  From the article submit, I received 135 live links. I submitted all of these to my socialadr account and set them to receive 20+ bookmarks each. I also did the same to all the web property articles I submitted. This is supposed help juice up all of these links. To make things better, I also outsourced some bookmarks to all of these pages.

75 = This day I outsourced another article submit to 100 directories.  This serviced used an original article and then spun it into more. I am starting to wonder if this wasn’t the start of the slap for this site.

79 = Good news today. Just seen the site at #6.  Starting to get 50+ unique visits per day to the site. Sweet

81 = Moved up one more spot, yes! #5.  Ordered some pr6 backlinks today. Forgot to bookmark the the videos from round one and two. So did that today.

82 = Dropped to #8. 100 articles package done. Made a 3rd video for round 3 and had it submitted to 20 video sites.

86 = Back up to #6. 3rd video submission done. The 100 live links I made into rss feeds and submitted to rss sites. Also sent  6 bookmarks each to these article pages.

97 = Back to the sweet spot of #5. Also today noticed a pagerank of 2 on the home page and interior pages. My 3rd round of articles to web properties is now in progress.

Day 99 = The penguin update slapped the site of the map.  To make matters worse, a few sites that are now on the first page are really lame sites with no content. I also looked at some of the backlinking to these sites, and most have keyword stuffed anchor text. I also noticed most links are from one site.  What ever happened to diversity!

Not sure yet how I am going to approach my next project. Will need to do a lot of research before moving on.

3 = Set up blog following my blog setup page.

4 = Submitted my 1st article to ezine and posted article 2 to the blog as a post.

7 = Article 1 spun and submitted to authority article directories.  Also posted a slide show to slideshare.

8 = Article 3 to ezine and article 4 posted to blog.

10 = Article 3 spun to directories,  5 to ezine,  and 6 to blog post at web site.

15 = 1st Month fiverr gigs ordered:

• 2.0 profile links
• Edu links
• 9 angela links page rank of 9
• Web 2.0 properties with link attack.
• One video made and submitted to video directories.

18 = Current ranking for my key phrase is #96

23 = Rank is #31

24 = Rank is #24

25 = Now at #17.  Looking good so far for less than 30 days into this project.

32 = Ordered 6 more original articles and posted articles 2,4,6 to blog.  1,3,5 posted at ezine as originals,  then auto spun those 3 and posted them at the article directories.  I did this over the next 2 weeks.

35 = Made another slide show and uploaded to slide share and the 4 other slide show sites.

36 = Did my own blog commenting to 25 relevant sites.

38 = 2nd Month fiverr gigs that were ordered:

• Social bookmarks
• Web 2.0 properties with link attack.

These are the only 2 gigs I ordered for this month.

39 = Lost one position in ranking.  Now at #18

53 = I have finished spinning and posted the rest of the articles.

54 = Site dropped to #45.  What is going on now?  Must be a Google dance going on.  Or my auto spun articles are starting to hurt my rankings like the last site.  This is just a guess.  I have no proof that this is the cause.

63 = I guess the dance is over.  Site is ranking at #23 now.  I was ready to give up on this site when it drop in rank.  Maybe not all is lost.  I will see if it keeps gaining rank and maybe order a seo package for the site.

65 = Not all is lost with my article marketing,  just noticed the site now has a page rank of 2!

80 = My webpage is still bouncing around #30.  I ordered a seo package from a warrior forum member.  I will have to wait and see if the site climbs the rankings.

95 = OK, the seo package I ordered is completed. This should move my site up a few spots. Right now at #29

106 = I waited a few days to give the seo service some time to fester.  The site is now listed at position #20.  Looks like this service was successful.  I will reorder a package sometime soon.

118 = site is now listing at #18

126 = #16

131 = still climbing, now at #13

137 = Oh no! site is dropping fast. Must have been slapped.  Another one bites the dust.

Not to worry, I am doing all of this to learn the best methods of SEO.  I am now in my 8th month of training.  Wow, time does fly.

134 days my site is #3 on Yahoo and #3 on Bing

Starting with a brand new site

Day 1 = Keyword research.  With this first backlinks project, I will start out with a brand new webpage. This will be a true test to see if this backlinks method actually works.  I used my keyword research method and looked for a keyword associated with MLM. I found out that the term ‘multilevel’ has very little competition. This term also has very few searches. 2 = I registered the url ‘multilevelblogger.com‘ at godaddy. Always be sure to include your keyword in your url.

3 = Set up website. For the past few years I have only been using wordpress blog sites.  They are very simple to use and have an endless amount of plugins.  There are many hosting companies to choose from.  Blue Host is a top rated hosting comany that offers affordable and reliable hosting services.

4 = Post content on blog.  My main purpose for this blog and future blogs will be to do reviews of products or services.  Income will be earned by promoting affiliate products or services pertaining to my keyword.  To start out I just posted a picture, youtube video, and a short comment pertaining to my keyword.  I also placed my keyword on the site to obtain about 6-8% keyword density.  I read a lot on this subject and found too many different opinions on what is the proper keyword density.  So I just picked 6-8%. Last time I checked my site was at 8.74%.  Use this free tool to check your sites keyword density.  I also set up a few pages on the blog for more content and keyword placement.

5 = Added a link to my new site on one of my other sites for faster indexing.  I also added this new site to my Google webmaster tools account for future monitoring and checking backlinks.

This backlinks method involves a layered type system.  The goal is to post spun articles with backlinks in the authors area to about twenty primary authoritative sites.  Then submit more spun articles to hundreds of other secondary article directory sites that contain backlinks to those primary twenty sites.

8 = Finished writing article #1 and checked for duplicate content using this free plagiarism checker.  My article was 97% unique.

10 = I purchased The Best Spinner.  I submitted the original article to ezinearticles.com.  They usually take about 5 days to approve articles.  During this time I spun my first article into 20 more articles.  Once my article was approved at ezinearticles, I submitted the 61% spun articles to the rest of the article directories on my resource page.

11 = Time to set up some free blogs sites with my keyword in the url if possible.  The blogs sites are also listed on my resource page.  At each site I posted a picture, youtube video,  and another one of my spun articles.  I also posted a link back to my main site at the end of each post.  I mixed up the anchor text for each link but made sure my keyword was first for each backlink.

12 = Purchased an automatic article submitter.  I won’t mention it here because after days and days of learning and using the software, I didn’t think this type of software is useful.  I did keep using it for most of this backlinks campaign.  On day 12 I submitted a few hundred spun articles with backlinks to my Livejournal page.

13 = Uploading power point presentations is also an excellent source for backlinks. If you do not have microsoft office, you can download free slide show software from openoffice.org.  Make sure and choose a template with a title option on each page.  You can then turn the title into a backlink to your site.  I just do a five slide project.  Make a different one for each site you upload to.  The ones I use for backlinks are on my resource page.  For day 13 I uploaded one to slideshare.  On this day I also posted comments with backlinks to my main site at three mlm blogs with good page rank.  I continued using the auto submitter and submitted a few hundred spun articles with backlinks to three of the free blog sites.

14 = Used the auto submitter to submit more articles with backlinks to the three of the primary article directories where my articles are posted.

18 = Same as day 14.

20 = At this point I am starting the process all over with a second article.  Article #2 is complete and I posted the original to ezinearticles.  Also started spinning this article into many more.

22 = Same as day 14.

23 = Added TF social share plugin to main blog site.  I try and click the share buttons after each post.

28 = Added an outbound backlink to a high page rank site with low competition.  Usually this will be a wikipedia link. On this day, my main blog site now has a page rank of 1.  Some of these backlinks are helping.

31 = Added a slide show to myplicks with backlinks to main site.

33 = Added a slide show to slideboom.

35 = Posted spun #2 articles to all free blog sites, with backlinks of course.

36 = Used auto submitter to submit spun #2 articles with backlinks to the primary article directories.

37 = Multilevelblogger.com is at google position #21 for keyword multilevel.

38 = Oh no!  Checked my google webmaster tools and noticed their system is not showing any backlinks to my main site.  Not sure what kind of set back this is going to cause.  Is it going to be like starting all over? I have no idea.  Need to just press on.  Backlinks showed back up after five days.  Weird.

44 = Uploaded a slide show to authorstream.

Went on vacation for two weeks.  Did not do anything during this time.

66 = Finished 3rd article and submitted spun versions to eight primary article directories and the free blog sites.  Also posted a comment with a backlink to main site at another mlm blog site.

At this point I am not using the auto article submitter to submit articles to the secondary directories.  I am not seeing any indexed pages where my auto submitted articles were supposed to be submitted.  If my article link is not indexed,  there are no backlinks to the primary article directory sites.

67 = Submitted more spun versions of article #3 to six more primary article directories to get more backlinks.

68 = Added a job listing page by using Indeed.com.  Not sure if this helps or not.

69 = Joined Qondio.com. This is a social type site.  I paid the $10 for the premium account.  I figured the link juice was worth it.  You need to be a member for five days before your profile backlinks will be listed.

72 = Article marketing with backlinks is taking up a lot of my time.  I decided to try out a writing/submission service.  The one I chose writes an article and submits it to 500 article directories with backlinks.  They claim at least 300 articles will be approved.  Will see.  They finished the order today and have sent it to submissions.

75 = Yahoo is now listing my site at #15.

76 = Submitted site to TopicCraze.com.

Day 77 = This is the first time my site is on the first page of Google at #9.

78 = Oops! Spoke to soon.  Site fell to position #15.  Silly search engine.

79 = Added meta code to my header area for mobile, viewport, and apple applications.

84 = My site has moved back up to page one on Google #10 and #13 with Yahoo.

94 = I just noticed in my webmaster tools,  that Google is listing a lot more backlinks to my site.  For the first few months there was only about 12 backlinks listed.  Now all the sudden there are 117 backlinks listed.  My work is paying off.

Here is an update on using anchor text in backlinks.  SEO experts say to mix up your anchor text and keep your keyword in the mix.  I think this is a good idea if you are targeting different phrases.  What happened with my site is, I rank high with backlink phrases I never intended to.  Besides, very few people search these phrases.  So, did I waste my  backlinks juice mixing up my anchor text?  I’m not sure, that’s why I do these experiments.

Day 120 key phrase update:   My main keyword for this project was ‘multilevel’.

Now that I my site has been sitting at the bottom of the first page for some time, I still would like to go for top position. So I ordered four more articles to be written.  I will spin them and submit them to article directories.

95 = If you are keeping track of the number of articles I am submitting, I just finished posting my 4th spun article to the directories for more backlinks.

96 = Posted article 5 orignal to ezinearticles.  Once approved I will spin it and post to the other directories.

113 = Just finished posting the rest of my spun articles.  That adds up to 7 articles so far submitted for backlinks.  My site is still bouncing back and forth from the bottom of page 1 to the top of page 2.  I am still trying for top position.  I am currently involved in discussions with two forums.  I am also posting to mlm blogs for more backlinks.

115 = I have been looking around fiverr.com. I hired a few users to do the following tasks:  180 google +1′s,  50 edu backlinks,  five pr7 backlinks, and four pr6 backlinks.  Not sure any of this will be helpful or not.

116 = Besides having backlinks to your site, it is also just as important to have fresh content.  I spun the seven articles I have and posted them on different areas of the site.

120 = It has now been 4 months since I started this backlinks case study.  I am showing 157 back links in my webmasters tools for the site.  My site is still dancing from page 1 to 2.  Not sure what else to do.  I was hoping for top position by now.  Maybe I will try a few more things and see if I can get to 1st position.

125 = Showing 175 backlinks with webmaster tools.  Seem to be stuck at position #11.

131 = I am now showing 223 backlinks in webmaster tools.  Also my 200 social bookmarketing campaign from a fiverr user was completed today.  See if this moves my site up at all.  Still at #11.

134 = My site is #3 on Yahoo and #5 on Bing.   Article marketing seems to work well with these two.  I would still be #9 with Google but another site just jump in 1st position out of no where. I hope it doesn’t stick.  So back to #10

141 = Order two more gigs from fiverr for more backlinks.  Link wheel using senukex and 200 top authority profile backlinks.  This will be all I do for this project.  I am concentrating on backlinks project #2.

146 = My webmasters tools account is now showing 354 backlinks.

147 = My site has finally moved up with the big G.  The site is now at #7

154 = My site has passed the 5 month mark. It is now sitting at #8 with the big G.  Backlinks in webmaster tools has dropped to 297, it peaked at 354.  I ordered one more backlinks gig from fiverr.  See if the site moves up.

166 = My site has been slapped!    The last gig I ordered was 400 profile back links,  oops.  I guess this was way too many at once.  This is why I tested my strategies on an unimportant webpage first.  Keep that in mind everyone.

Just a quick 6 month update.  Site is still not even in the top 300 for my keyword.

This second case study will be targeted to this website. backlinksdominator.com.  No keyword research needed. I am going for the term ‘backlinks’.  This site is 2 years old. I used to sell an ebook on this site. I had thousands of backlinks already pointing here. Most of those were on my other sites. I removed all of them, but it takes a long time for search engines to de-index backlinks. If you noticed from my first backlinks project, I have already been setting this site up for the backlinks term. So I am a little ahead of the game. Site had a page rank of 2 before I removed all of the backlinks. Now it is holding a page rank of 1.

For this project I will be using article marketing as I did with the first back links project.  But this time I will add more backlinks from different sources.  Such as, social bookmarks, slides share sites, blog comments, web 2.0 profiles, web 2.0 properties, video sites, and edu/gov back links.  Most of these tasks will be hired out to fiverr users.  I will also try to use link wheels when ever possible to get links indexed quicker.

Day 1 = Went through the blog set up to make sure this site is set up properly.

2 = Purchased an article submission package from a warrior forum member.  He writes an article and spins it and submits it to 7 different article directories.  This is done over a 60 period.  End results are supposed to be over 2,000 live back links.

3 = Purchased 5 articles from fiverr user.  These were not good quality.  Will not order articles from fiverr again.

4 = On this day this site is #144 with Yahoo, #160 with Bing, and a no show with Google. This site is #1 for the term ‘backlinks dominator’, but very few people search this phrase.

7 = Ordered a 100 back links package from fiverr.  Links are supposed to be on pages with actual pagerank.

9 = Purchased 200 social bookmarks and 1 article from ribbun.  Posted article on this site when it was complete.

15 = Chris from warrior forum sent me an update.  So far 147 live back links completed.

16 = Orderd 60 2.0 profile back links.

17 = Site is #71 with G.

20 = Now #48.  Nice jump.

22 = Made a slide show and uploaded to the sites on my resource page.  Also order a video testimony from fiverr.

24 = Position #39

25 = Following gigs ordered, video to 20 video sites, 20 edu back links with 3000 links to the 20, 15 web 2.0 properties with link wheel.

30 = When I purchased the article submit package, one of the key phrases I wanted to use was ‘backlinks seo’.  Today my site is #6 for that search.  Only 600 searches for that term per month.  So won’t see too much traffic for this.

41 =  Now I am starting into the second month with this seo back links project.  I will repeat what has been done during the first month.  I will do some of my  own article marketing.  8 articles have been ordered.  4 will be spun and the other 4 will posted to this site for original content.

45 = Checking my stats today, I see someone searched ‘backlinks tips’.  Once again, just like the first project,  my site is getting first page listings for phrases other than my target one.  This comes from varying my anchor text in backlinks.

My tips page is #1 and #2 with the big G.  only 30 searches per month.

‘back links seo’  term gets me #5.  only 30 searches also.

‘backlinks seo’  listed at #7.  600 searches for this.

47 = Articles are completed.  Each month I order 8 articles.  The even ones, 2,4,6,8  I post to the site for original content.  The odd ones 1,3,5,7 I spin and submit to the article directories and free blog sites.

57 = Closing in on 2 months now.  Not much movement in serps.  Site is at #38 for main keyword.

71 = Now that the holidays are over, I need to get back to this backlinks seo project.  Just checked the position of this site and it is still only at #36.  All of the backlinks from the past  maybe hurting this sites ranking.  I will continue to do the same tasks each month to see if the site moves up in ranking.

75 = Here are my lastest standings for keyphrases:

Over two months of search engine optimizing so far.  I hope to start seeing better results going into month 3 and 4.

90 = Three months into this project now.  I am calling this one a failure.  My efforts are not even close to paying off.  I am thinking it’s because I am using the auto spin option when spinning my articles.  I read that someone else tested this and confirmed that it is not a good idea.  Search engines are getting smarter and smarter.  I will try this same method on my next project just to make sure this is an issue.
