Blog Set Up
This is my step by step process for setting up a wordpress blog for backlinks projects. I only use blogs because they are so simple to edit, update, and upload media. No need to log into cpanel and make changes in the file manager.
New tips for SEO: I have been reading a lot of info on the new panda updates. In a nut shell you need to keep in mind the following: Your site needs to be as natural as possible while keeping your visitors on your site as long as possible.
Before starting your SEO project, study the first 3 listings for your keyword and find out why those sites are at the top.-Make sure your site has fresh content and is updated regularly. Duplicate content and auto generated content will not rank you high with the big G.
-Do not have multiple pages that target the same keyword. Instead use related keywords to your niche.
-Duplicate backlink anchor text can also hurt your site. Make sure to mix up the keywords or phrases to your niche.
-Make sure your posts and pages have more than 1 or 2 paragraphs. Be sure to insert an image also.
-Keep affiliate links cloaked and to a minimum, better yet make them no-follow.
-If you do have outbound links, keep them at a minimum also, and be sure to mix up the anchor text.
Step 1. Keyword research. Click my link in the top menu for more info on keywords.
Step 2. Register domain name with the keyword or phrase in the url address.
Step 3. Set up hosting at Blue Host and install wordpress blog.
Step 4. Search for a wordpress theme related to keyword and install.
Step 5. Install the following plugins:
-Captcha plugin. I use the math one. Seems to work well.
-Google xml sitemap and build site map.
-Platinum seo and fill in title, description, and keywords. Put your keyword at the beginning of each of these.
-TF social share and configure settings. Or any other social share plug-in.
These are just the minimum plugins I install. There are many others available for your choosing.
Step 6. Go to your permalinks settings and select ‘Month and Name’ for your blog urls.
Step 7. Post an image, video, and some content related to keyword. Try to get your keyword density to about 5%.
Step 8. Ad an Indeed.com job page. Not necessary.
Step 9. Ad some more pages like, about, contact us, privacy, etc. With the panda update, try not to stuff your keyword or phrase into your page urls. Mix them up according to your niche.
Step 10. Ad your blog to rss feeds like feedage and feedagg.
Step 11. Ad your blog to topiccraze.
Step 12. Go to your Platinum seo setting and select ‘nofollow external links on front page’. This will prevent page rank from flowing over to other pages. There are other nofollow selections if you do not want to pass page rank to your interior pages.
Step 13. Add your new site to your google webmaster tools and google analytics.
Step 14. Go to the appearance editor and click on header. Make sure the <title> tags and code are right below the start of the <head> tag. Search engines like to see the title as the first line.
Step 15. While you are in the header area, ad the following meta tags:
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,initial-scale=1,user-scalable=no" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=240,user-scalable=no" /> <meta name="geo.placename" content="your state" /> <meta name="geo.region" content="your country" /> <meta name="MobileOptimized" content="width" /> <meta name="HandheldFriendly" content="true" /> <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes" /> <meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-status-bar-style" content="black" /> <meta name="DC.Publisher" content="your name" /> <meta name="DC.Description" content="your discription" /> <meta name="DC.Subject" content="your subject" />
Internal Linking Structure
It is a good practice to have some type of internal linking structure with your blog. The most popular type of structure I have read about, is a link wheel type system. Linking all posts or pages to your home page, and then linking the posts or pages to each other. A post is still a page in the end, so you can do a wheel with all the posts and pages together or separate them. I separate them just to be differnt. I made a separate link wheel for the posts and another for the pages.
